The Hijacking of Pan Am Flight 73
On September 5, 1986, four heavily armed terrorists stormed Pan Am flight 73 while it was on the ground at Karachi International Airport. In a terrifying standoff that lasted over 16 hours, 20 of the 360 passengers lost their lives, along with two Pan Am employees, and over 100 people were seriously injured. It remains one of the most violent assaults in aviation history, and a revered example of human courage and resilience.
