I was a travel editor based in New York City when Pan Am invited me to fly to Frankfurt, Germany, to celebrate the reopening of their service to Berlin as the Berlin Wall is falling. The trip also included a black tie dinner with the U.S. Ambassador (Pan Am arranged my fitting in West Germany) and the first NFL football game played in Germany. We also toured East Berlin. It was one of the most memorable trips of my life and I still have Pan Am’s “thank you” gift.
